HAWKEYE #19

MATT FRACTION (W) • DAVID AJA (A/C)

“Rio Bravo” - PART 4

• The sense-shattering fallout of the Clint vs. the Clown — Clint Barton has been deafened!

• With the Barton Brothers this battered and bloodied, surely they’ll make easy pickins for the Bros, right? Bro? Seriously?

• If we do our jobs right THIS time, this issue will be the Dog Issue of Sign Language issues

And… I’m crying again.  Wednesday is so far away.

Just some doodles of Clint getting a new Cochlear Implant from the Science Bros. Who better to get the best tech from?—Now Clint can hear a cat yawn in the next building with the greatest of ease.

Also, it’ll be a theme that if I draw Clint, he will have his face busted to hell because it’s adorable. Enjoy. :D

A small peak at next week’s HAWKEYE #19

Spoilers, i suppose.

Call me a sentimental wackadoodle, but I actually teared up while reading this article.  This has been a long time coming for me, and it freaking means the world.

For all the crying and complaining I’ve done about the delays and as upset as I still am that Fraction’s run is coming to an end, I really just can’t overstate my thanks to him, Aja, Hollingsworth, and every single person who’s had a hand in making this a reality.  It means something important.

Wait, would you mind explaining the sign language issue? I’ve heard a few people mention it but I don’t actually know what’s going on?
All right, this response will obviously contain spoilers for the current Hawkeye run written by Matt Fraction.
Back during the 2013 Emerald City Comicon, Fraction spoke a bit about his intent for the direction of the comic, including an issue that would be told through American Sign Language.  Clint Barton did at one time have hearing damage from an incident that happened in Hawkeye #4, back in 1983. He was a (reluctant) hearing aid user for a while, before his hearing was restored when he was reborn on Franklin Richards’ alternate Earth.  (I know, right?  Comics.)  So Fraction wanted to riff off that.  I also recall him saying one that he imagined Clint had sustained some lasting hearing damage from routine beatings as a child as well.
In issue #15 of the current run, Clint is stabbed in both ears with arrows by the Clown.  So the last we saw of him back in… February, I think it was?  He was lying on the ground, bleeding profusely from both ears.  Fraction has been working with a family friend who is an ASL educator and the friend’s Deaf daughter on an issue told in American Sign Language, which is meant to be #19, released next Wednesday.  The correct solicitation is as follows:
The sense-shattering fallout of the Clint vs. the Clown — Clint Barton has been deafened! • With the Barton Brothers this battered and bloodied, surely they’ll make easy pickins for the Bros, right? Bro? Seriously? • If we do our jobs right THIS time, this issue will be the Dog Issue of Sign Language issues.
